New Injury Reporting Requirements and Poster from L&I

L&I announces new workplace poster September 1 2015

September 1, 2015

L&I is mailing every employer in the State of Washington a new Job Safety and Health poster this month. The move to a new poster is due to a substantial change in what employers must report to L&I. Effective immediately, employers must report to L&I within 24 hours any workplace injuries that involve an amputation or loss of an eye if the injured worker is not admitted to the hospital. This is in addition to the existing requirement to report within eight hours any workplace fatality or inpatient hospitalization.

The new rule is meant to comply with federal OSHA. L&I is advising employers to discard the old poster and replace it with the new one which should arrive in their mailbox within the next month.

Here are things you should know

New Reporting Requirements
Employers must report to L&I within 24 hours any workplace injuries that involve an amputation or loss of an eye if the injured worker is not admitted to the hospital.

There are 3 mandatory posters
Employers are required to display three workplace posters. The other two posters remain unchanged so employers can leave those ones up, but they must replace the new one once they receive it. The Job Safety and Health posters include both English and Spanish.
